Microsoft Corporation, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, is one of the world’s largest technology and software companies. As part of its commitment to operating sustainably, Microsoft has been powered by 100% renewable electricity since 2014 by purchasing more than 3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually. In October 2015, Microsoft was named a Green Power Partner of the Year by the EPA for the third time in four years. Microsoft’s purchase of green power, along with a combination of energy efficiency measures and an investment in high-quality carbon reduction projects, result in the company meeting its carbon neutral commitment in FY17. Microsoft’s global operations have been 100 percent carbon neutral since June 2012.
